Office of Foundation Relations

(Johns Hopkins University, Office of Foundation Relations, November 2023)

The Johns Hopkins University Central Office of Foundation Relations, part of the institution’s Development and Alumni Relations organization, manages relationships between the university and private philanthropic foundations. We monitor programs and priorities of major national foundations and key Baltimore-area foundations to identify changes in direction and new initiatives of interest to Johns Hopkins. Our purpose is to maximize foundation funding revenues to advance JHU’s groundbreaking research, teaching, and outreach activities by ensuring that each University contact with a foundation is strategic and optimized.

Ultimately, our goal is to build, enhance, and sustain relationships with a broad range of local, national, and international foundations to promote shared goals and objectives.

The Foundation Relations team works closely with the Office of the Vice Provost for Research in preparing announcements for limited submission competitions, providing editorial and strategic advice to faculty on their submissions, and/or preparing institutional letters of endorsement. Foundation Relations officers are assigned portfolios that include specific divisions across the Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Medicine (see below), and are available to work closely with faculty and staff to determine the best approach to each funding opportunity.
