Julie Messersmith works collaboratively with the VP and AVP for Research to oversee the development, strategic planning, and implementation of institutional research initiatives that aim to increase interdivisional collaboration and support the individual excellence of Johns Hopkins faculty members. These initiatives include the Bloomberg Distinguished Professorships, Catalyst Awards, Discovery Awards, and the President’s Frontier Awards. She also leads research communications efforts and collaborates with the Office of Federal Affairs to produce Hopkins on the Hill.
Before joining the Provost’s Office, Ms. Messersmith worked in Development & Alumni Relations as the assistant director of foundation relations. In this role, she worked with key faculty to find foundation support for their research and collaborated with divisional colleagues in planning significant foundation site visits and presidential meetings with priority organizations such as the Gates, Moore, and Packard Foundations.
Ms. Messersmith previously worked for Vail Resorts Management Company in Colorado and Clairmont Camera Film & Digital, a motion picture camera rental house in California. She earned a bachelor’s degree in International Studies from Pepperdine University, a master’s degree in International Studies (Development & Conflict Resolution) from the University of Denver, and a master of Liberal Arts degree from Johns Hopkins.
